La Iglesia, en su af\u00e1n por mantener su influencia sobre la sociedad, impide que se hagan traducciones de las Santas Escrituras al ingl\u00e9s. Pero los primeros movimientos reformistas ya se hacen notar y el te\u00f3logo John Wycliffe no duda en enfrentarse al intolerante obispo de Norwich, Henry Despenser y traduce por su cuenta la Biblia para hacerla accesible al mayor n\u00famero de creyentes posible.
